Cleaning and Organizing my Spice Shelf

I’m participating in the 21 Day Organizing Challenge hosted by Toni at a Bowl Full of Lemons. Today is the day to clean and organize the spice shelf.
I was really dreading this one because it has been so long since I cleaned this shelf over my stove. It had a build up of grease on each spice and the shelf. It’s embarrassing to share, but if it encourages others to take the challenge, I will share it.
I took everything off the shelf and put it on the counter.
I got out my Get Clean Kitchen Kit which includes Shaklee Basic H, Basic G, and Scour Off to remove the grease from the shelves and the spice bottles and to disinfect everything.
I wiped everything down and made it clean and sparkly. Above the oven collects a lot of oil and makes the shelves and spices sticky. The Basic H degrease formula made clean up easy! And no smelly fumes either!
Then I alphabetized my spices on the top shelf because they are all the same size. On the bottom shelf, I sorted and put them in groupings of similar items. I threw away items that had expired.

Cleaning Challenge: What’s Under Your Sink?

Have you looked under your sink lately?
Well today I’m working on Day 5 of the Get Organized Challenge hosted by Toni at A Boxful of Lemons. I have already organized it in the past, so mostly this was about cleaning all the bottles and folding my dishcloths more neatly and …. getting my DH to change the filter in our BestWater purification system.
First, I took everything out from under the sink, so my DH could get under there to change out my water filter.
Now, I hope this next picture doesn’t gross you out, but the truth is the truth…. Even city water that brags to be clean….well… you be the judge!
And here is what a NEW filter looks like….

Finally, I threw away a few near empty bottles. I sprayed my containers with Basic H household solution and wiped them out. I put everything back in its place. Here is the “after” picture.

11 Cleaning Challenges for 1/11/11

We are snowed in for the 2nd day! (2 inches…LOL!) Mostly ice is the issue…
Nonetheless, I have some time on my hands…so I am ambitiously laying down a cleaning challenge!
My goal: 11 cleaning projects today! Will you join me?

How I Clean a Casserole Dish with Baked on Cheese

If you have teenagers, you know they are going to take the lazy way out and not wash the cheese off the baked casserole dish. They are going to put it in the dishwasher and pray the mess cleans itself. Then, (I’m telling on my teenager…. ) when they unload the dishwasher, they just put the dirty dish in the cabinet so they don’t have to deal with it. If you’ve had this happen, you know how frustrating it can be!
Anyway, I found one of these cheesy casserole dishes in my cabinet today. I thought this would make a good blog post about how easy it is to clean. I seriously doubt my teen will read it or even care! But, I hope it helps you.
BEFORE picture:
First, I sprayed the casserole dish with Basic H household formula.
Then, I applied a thin coat of Scour Off Heavy Duty Paste and I let it soak 5 minutes.
Next, I did a little scrubbing with a scratchy pad.
Finally, I rinsed it with water!
When you try this, you will be amazed how easily it scrubs clean.
This took less than 5 minutes and look how clean and shiny! And most important… I didn’t use any toxic cleaners! Safe for me and the planet!
