Today was a long day at work. We had our 3 year anniversary celebration party and had over 150 guests partying with us. I’m tired and it’s after 9 pm, but having the accountability of an audience and the challenge…here I am. I am sitting on my stability ball doing the home office exercises and just finished reading Day2 of the 30 Day Home Office Challenge. I’m glad it is easy. It’s about changing focus off fat loss and focusing on the energy and increased productivity I will have at work and for my home business and family. Now that’s easy for today. Tomorrow is new day with a new focus. See ya then.
Join me in the 30 Day Home Office Challenge by clicking here. You can start at anytime (why not now!) and it is FREE.
Leave me a note below if you are going to accept the challenge. It’s the accountability you need!
30 Day Home Office Fitness Challenge Day 1
| September 23, 2009 | Posted by admin under Exercise |
Yesterday I ran across a fitness challenge that is great for busy people who work desk jobs or work from home. I’m embarrassed to say, I work at a gym, but rarely take the time I need for myself for fitness. My excuse is that I am there all day and when work is over, I want to be at home with my family and working my online affiliate marketing business. That means I sit all day!
But today I am beginning Scott Tousignant’s Fat Loss Quickie “30 Day Home Office Fitness Challenge.”
I was surprised at how easy the first day’s challenge is….
All I had to do was sit on my stability ball for 15 minutes.
I feel good that today was a success.
Now, I know it will get more challenging and working with someone else helps. So I want to challenge my blog readers to join me in this challenge and leave a comment on my blog each day as you complete the challenge. At the end of the challenge, I will have some awesome prizes for the participants.
So go ahead now and leave a comment if you are going to accept the challenge.
Prepare Your Immune System for the Flu and Cold Season
| September 22, 2009 | Posted by admin under Nutrition, Supplements |
Hello Shaklee Family,
Most anyone who is reading the newspapers or watching the news on television is more than aware of the latest threats to our health. As we have seen in the past, outbreaks in one part of the world can be of concern to all so it has never been more important to focus on doing all you can to protect your health beginning with immune function and starting today.
Your ability to stay well rests upon the vibrant functioning of your immune system. Here are a few simple things to do:
- Take Shaklee Vitalizer and Nutriferon® daily as the foundation of your immune health program. Vitalizer provides key vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are critically important to immune function as well as providing a host of other health benefits.* Nutriferon is truly a breakthrough in immune science?a unique, multi-patented botanical blend created in collaboration with Dr. Yasuhiko Kojima, the discoverer of interferon. Nutriferon is supported by five published clinical studies (referenced below) and is the only dietary supplement shown to naturally increase the production of interferon, critically important for immune health. For additional support, you can take Defend and Resist Complex on an as needed basis. Be sure you have the new Incredivites on hand for your children and you can add in our great Chewable Vita-C® and Optiflora® Probiotic for a little extra boost for them as well.*And while you are committing to being healthier, be sure you:
- Eat a healthy diet, full of antioxidants and immune supporting nutrients. This means avoiding fast food restaurants (generally empty calories) and committing to eating at least five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day.
- Get plenty of rest. Your immune system can be very negatively impacted by inadequate sleep. Be sure to get at least seven hours per night (7 ½ to 8 ½ is ideal).
- Wash your hands. That is one of the best ways to stay well, even if you are exposed.
Sending warmest regards,

Dr. Jamie McManus M.D.

| September 21, 2009 | Posted by admin under Nutrition, Supplements |
There is a lot of hype in the news about resveratrol and the studies being conducted to prove it will be the “anti aging“ drug of the future. If they are right, we may all be able to delay or forestall the age related diseases we are seeing today that end lives prematurely like diabetes, Alzheimer’s and heart disease by taking a drug based on red wine.

Can Exercise Make You Smarter? New Study Says Aerobic Exercise Improves Brain Function
| September 20, 2009 | Posted by admin under Exercise |

New studies demonstrate that aerobic exercise may improve brain function.
“Allow a laboratory mouse to run as much as it likes, and its brainpower improves. Force it to run harder than it otherwise might, and its thinking improves even more. This is the finding of an experiment led by researchers at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan and placed online in May.”
“In an experiment published in the journal of the American College of Sports Medicine, 21 students at the University of Illinois were asked to memorize a string of letters and then pick them out from a list flashed at them. Then they were asked to do one of three things for 30 minutes — sit quietly, run on a treadmill or lift weights — before performing the letter test again. After an additional 30-minute cool down, they were tested once more. On subsequent days, the students returned to try the other two options. The students were noticeably quicker and more accurate on the retest after they ran compared with the other two options, and they continued to perform better when tested after the cool down. “There seems to be something different about aerobic exercise,” Charles Hillman, an associate professor in the department of kinesiology at the University of Illinois and an author of the study, says.”

Six Tips for a Healthier Home
| September 14, 2009 | Posted by admin under Natural Cleaning Products |
Commit to carefully considering everything that crosses your doorstep.
Here are some safe, healthy things to have in your home:
- Cleaners that are truly cleaner, nontoxic, natural, biodegradable, concentrated, and hypoallergenic.
- Fresh air. Open your windows to reduce indoor air pollution.
- Essential oils. Use these instead of air fresheners.
- Plants. Besides being nice to look at, they can absorb harmful gases and help clean the air.
- Organic cotton bedding. Avoid standard bedding treated with chemicals.
- Floors made of recycled and renewable resources. Healthier paint. That new paint smell can be as nasty as it smells. Choose low VOC paint instead.
How to Get Your Children to Eat Vegetables: A Simple Way to Sneak Veggies into Your Child’s Diet
| September 13, 2009 | Posted by admin under Children's Health, Nutrition, Recipes |
If you are struggling to get your children to eat vegetables, then you may want to try this “sneaky” idea. Puree vegetables in a blender and then add the purees into recipes your children like. I did this for years sneaking vegetables into meatloaf, hamburgers, and soups.
But, now there is a cookbook called, The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids’ Favorite Meals with a variety of delicious recipes your children will love including brownies made with spinach and blueberry puree. Watch this video to see a few examples. Then order the book!
If your child won’t eat vegetables and you are worried about him/her getting enough nutrients, you may want to try a mulitivitamin/multimineral supplement like ShakleeKids Incredivites (TM). I’ve used Shaklee Food Supplements for my children for over 10 years.

Get Educated About Household Cleaning Products

Learn more about what you bring into your home…
To find out what’s under your sink, go to the National Institutes of Health Library of Medicine Household Products Database. You can search almost any brand of cleaner you use, find out what’s in it, and uncover its links to health effects. Or search by chemical ingredients and discover what brands contain it. The information may shock you.

More than 9 out of every 10 suspected poison exposures occur at home with household products.
8 INGREDIENTS TO AVOID IN HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS
- Phosphates, found in dishwasher and laundry detergents, cause algae bloom, which kills fish and aquatic plants, and produces chemicals that are toxic to animals and people who drink the water.
- Trisodium nitrilotriacetate is a possible carcinogen in laundry detergents. It can disrupt the elimination of metals in wastewater treatment facilities.
- Chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite), available alone and in detergents and other products, is toxic to fish and can bind with organic compounds in water to form organochlorines, which break down slowly in the environment and accumulate in the fatty tissues of wildlife. Chlorine is especially toxic to organisms that live in water and soil.
- Napthas and mineral spirits, found in furniture polishes, are neurotoxins and considered hazardous waste. Mineral spirits break down very slowly and contaminate air and water.
- Formaldehyde, an ingredient in furniture polish and various
cleaning products, is a potential human carcinogen and a known cancer-causing agent in animals. - Phthalates, found in furniture polish, disrupt hormone function and can cause genetic defects in both animals and humans.
- Ether-type solvents, methylene chloride, butyl cellosive, and petroleum distillates, found in oven cleaners are hazardous waste and can contaminate the air, water, and soil.
- Sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide, in drain cleaners, can change the pH of water and cause fish kill.
