Today, I visited the Bluebird Market in Thomaston, Georgia where Farmer Bob showed up with his locally grown apples. He told us how wonderful applesauce is when made with 1/2 Rome Apples and 1/2 Granny Smith. So, I rushed home with my apples and made some applesauce. It is so EASY and healthy.
How to Make Applesauce
Ingredients:
2 Granny Smith Apples
2 Rome Apples
2 tsp sugar (optional)
dash of cinnamon (optional)
dash of salt
I leave the skins on to maintain the nutrients, but you can peel them if you like. Cut apples into small chunks (leave out core and seeds) and place in a saucepan. Add 2 tbs. of water. Cook on low until soft and mushy (about 30 minutes). Add sugar, salt and cinnamon. Stir and serve hot or cool it down.
The benefits of making your own applesauce is there are no preservatives added and it is fresh and tasty.
